Jakie's First Day of 3rd Grade

Jacob started his first day of the 3rd grade today.  I can't believe that he is such a big boy.  He showed up at the van with his buddy Christian (from his 2nd grade class) ready to resume play dates.  I guess not that much has changed!

Mikey Mike's check up.

5 months, 26 days/ 14.8 lbs.  Daddy calls you is "little mandrake" and mommy loves your kisses and smiles.  You just like food and love!

Little Ricky Makes Me Laugh!

Ricky Came downstairs in his Halloween costume from last year and I had to crack up.  He was bummed to learn that he was an Orca whale but he perked up when we told him that they eat sharks.  Rraaarr

Jakie Gets His Bobcat!

After only a few weeks as a cub scout Jacob has passed off enough requirements to get his  bobcat award this month at the his pack meeting.  Every week Jacob made the effort to pass off requirements ranging from cooking a meal and cleaning up to learning the cub scout motto and pledge of allegiance.  I was so proud listening to him memorize and repeat them and feel good knowing that he is learning things that will help him become a great boy.   He is so full of enthusiasm about the program and wants to work on it every chance he gets.  He finished every requirement and passed them off with his leaders this week and got his bobcat award tonight.   Congratulations Jakie!!

At the pack meeting all of the boys in his den put together a cute little skit that required them to dress up like cowboys.  3 stores and 2 hours of looking for something cowboy inspired and we finally found something to wear for him to be the part: Guy 2 in his skit.  See link to see it.  TURN VOLUME WAY UP!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_f5mmtVrf8"

Men are from Mars!

I have proof!  Men are from Mars! At least, mine are:)  Rick took the boys to the Clark Planetarium for a little Daddy, son time.  We started a tradition when Ricky was born that he would take the other kid(s) out for some quality time together. It offers them some love and security that they are still important to us and Mommy gets some quality time with her new little bundle of joy.   I laughed when Rick texted me this picture and felt grateful that these two little Martians are mine.

Welcome To The World Mikey!

Today 2/5/13 at 4:15pm our 3rd little boy Michael Lee Shumway was born at the University Of Utah Hospital.  Mikey was 21.5 inches long and weighed less than any of our others at only 8.5lbs.  The hospital was prepared for a baby closer to Ricky's weight (10 lbs 9oz) but nope, Mikey came into he world with about 4 pushes and was my easiest delivery.

I went in to the hospital at about 11:30am after my water broke at home and was in full labor within about 1 hour of being there.  I progressed quickly and was worried that they might not get my epidural placed in enough time for it to be effective.  Luckily, it was in and my labor was short.  Michael was in my arms before I knew it and I fell in love right away just as I had with his brothers.  Michael was born our Blondie baby giving us a wide variety of hair colors brown, red and blond and looks just like Jacob did to me just with lighter hair.  They all have exactly the same hair line, clicks, and coppery highlights that favor his brothers heads of hair, but Mikey wins for most hair on a baby in this family.  His locks are light and flowy and make him adorable.  Mikey sleeps most of the day and nurses every time he is awake.  he is an animal at feedings and wants to eat all day.  Ive tried every newborn baby pacifier but only one works and only occasionally.  I love nursing when he starts cooing and gulping and it makes me smile and even laugh when he is animated enough about it.  Mikey has steel blue eyes so far but I look forward to seeing their final color.  The boys are beautiful Hazel (Ricky) and green (Jake) and either of those colors would be beautiful on his little blond face.  So far, everything feels so new but so familiar about him all at the same time.  i really love it!

It has been so interesting to go through another birth after almost getting out of the diaper stage again.  Jake and Ricky are pretty self sustaining and easy to entertain.  Having a little guy that wants to be with me all day (Mikey is my clingy one) makes me have to slow down and spend more time.  Mikey is happiest when he is nursing and being held by momma.  He hates being swaddled or laid down (uh oh!).  I figure since he is our last one I can spend a little more time and enjoy each stage because I know it goes fast.  I don't want to wish it away or miss out on my 3rd babies moments that I loved with each of his brothers.  I wouldn't mind getting to sleep in my bed again though.  I had to sleep in a recliner for 1.5 months at the end of the pregnancy because my back was so miserable.  Now I sleep in the same recliner so that I can nurse and hold Mikey while he sleeps.  He hates the crib and hates the bassinet. Only my arms or sleeping right next to me in the bed seems to be okay with him.  Eventually I will have to let him cry it out and get over it but for now, I will just indulge his needs and be glad that I have my sweet boy in my arms and not inside of my belly:)

Welcome To The World Mikey!  It wont be perfect, but you will love it.  we are here for you and cant wait to see you grow.  We are so glad that you are ours.  Daddy is sooooooo excited that you are here:)

Here are those first moments of life outside of momma:

Jakie Is Being Baptized!

Jacob is was baptized!  I cant believe he is already 8 years old!  We did it a few months late so that Grandma and Grandpa Hutchins could be there to witness Jacob become a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and also witness Mikey after he is born sometime during their visit (TURNED OUT TO BE 2 DAYS LATER!!  I LOOKED AND FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO BE THAT NIGHT!!!.  Jacob was very patient so that they could be at both and not have to book multiple flights in such a short period of time.
I was so proud as I watched Jacob enter into the waters of baptism and accept his covenant to take upon himself the name of Jesus Christ and all that it signifies.  It was a special day that was just for him.  We had just friends and close family attend and it was perfect.  Jacob was able to participate with answering questions during his program and he knew every one of the answers.    I feel like we prepared him to take this step and understand (at least as well as an 8 year old could) the importance of his promise attached to his baptism.  I am so very glad that I can offer him the knowledge of a gospel that I know to be true, that I love and that has guided me in my life.  I know that it will be that same blessing in his life.  I love my Jakie!  I am so happy to be his momma:)

Baptism of
Jacob Cameron Shumway

Daybreak 3rd Ward of
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,
South Jordan, UT

Song Lyrics:

Baptism

1. Jesus came to John the Baptist,
In Judea long ago,
And was baptized by immersion
In the River Jordan’s flow.

2. “To fulfill the law,” said Jesus,
When the Baptist questioned why,
“And to enter with my Father
In the kingdom up on high.”

3. Now we know that we must also
Witness faith in Jesus’ word,
Be baptized to show obedience,
As was Jesus Christ, our Lord.

I am a Child of God

1. I am a child of God,
And He has sent me here,
Has given me an earthly home
With parents kind and dear.

2. I am a child of God,
And so my needs are great;
Help me to understand His words
Before it grows too late.

3. I am a child of God.
Rich blessings are in store;
If I but learn to do His will,
I’ll live with Him once more.

Chorus
Lead me, guide me, walk beside me,
Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do
To live with him someday.
